The U.S. Public Broadcasting System (PBS) interviewed a ProPublica journalist recently who reported on this Arizona State University study:

The ProPublica review of the study shows – through numerous graphics – the dramatic depletion of groundwater and surface water plus the melting of glaciers.  The acceleration in the past decade compared to the previous decade has resulted in once separate arid places forming “mega-drying” regions stretching across entire continents.
